Greek: αντι [anti] (ανθ [anth] before ων [hôn]). (Preposition with genitive). Over against, opposite. Instead, for, in the place of.

αντι [anti] appears 22 times in the NT:

(1) Matthew 2: 22
But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: - ("in the room of his father" - αντι του πατρος αυτου [anti tou patros autou] Lit: "instead of the father of him").

(2, 3) Matthew 5: 38
Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: - ("An eye for an eye" - οφθαλμον αντι οφθαλμου [ophthalmon anti ophthalmou] Lit: "eye instead of eye". / "a tooth for a tooth" - οδοντα αντι οδοντος [odonta anti odontos] Lit: "tooth instead of tooth").

(4) Matthew 17: 27

(21, 22) 1 Peter 3: 9
