Greek: ριζα [rhiza] (Noun feminine). A root.

ριζα [rhiza] appears 17 times in the NT:


(1) Matthew 3: 10
And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. - την ριζαν [tên rhizan] Accus. sing. ("unto the root " - προς την ριζαν [pros tên rhizan] Lit: "toward the root").

(2) Matthew 13: 6
And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. - ριζαν [rhizan] Accus. sing.

(3) Matthew 13: 21
Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. - ριζαν [rhizan] Accus. sing.
