To hold fast

Greek: κατεχω [katechô] (Verb). From κατα [kata] and εχω [echô]: to hold down, to hold fast.

κατεχω [katechô] appears 19 times in the NT:


(1) Matthew 21: 38 [variant]
But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. - κατασχωμεν [kataschômen] 2Aorist Subjunctive Active, 1 pl. (variant: σχωμεν [schômen] 2Aorist Subjunctive Active, 1 pl. Verb εχω [echô]).

(2) Luke 4: 42
And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. - κατειχον [kateichon] Imperfect Indicative Active, 3 pl.
