Thorn


Greek: ακανθα [akantha] (Noun feminine). Thorn. A thorny plant.

ακανθα [akantha] appears 14 times in the NT:

(1) Matthew 7: 16
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? - ακανθων [akanthôn] Gen. pl. ("of thorns" - απο ακανθων [apo akanthôn]).

(2, 3) Matthew 13: 7
And some fell among thorns¹; and the thorns² sprung up, and choked them: - ¹τας ακανθας [tas akanthas] Accus. pl. ("among thorns" - επι τας ακανθας [epi tas akanthas] Lit: "on the thorns"). / ²αι ακανθαι [hai akanthai] Nom. pl.

(4) Matthew 13: 22
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. - τας ακανθας [tas akanthas] Accus. pl. ("among the thorns" - εις τας ακανθας [eis tas akanthas] Lit: "in the thorns").
